TD Tree Days planting 300 trees at Pinafore Park

St. Thomas, Ontario – Pinafore Park will get a burst of green Saturday, September 21 when volunteers with TD Tree Days and Kettle Creek Conservation Authority plant 300 trees.

"Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) has supported TD Tree Days since 2012" says Betsy McClure, stewardship program supervisor. "On average, KCCA plants 50,000 trees per year. TD Tree Days is a great way of engaging our local community in the restoration and protection of natural habitats in our watershed."

More than 70 volunteers from the St. Thomas community have signed up to assist with tree planting along the trail at the back of Pinafore Park and adjacent to Lake Margaret. Species being planted include sugar maple, tulip tree, eastern redbud, bur oak, red oak, tamarack, downy serviceberry and highbush cranberry.

Last year, TD launched a new corporate citizenship platform called The Ready Commitment. As part of The Ready Commitment, TD aims to help create a more vibrant planet with a target of planting 1 million trees by 2030. This multi-year initiative will help open doors to a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow. This year, up to 10,000 volunteers and hundreds of community partners will help plant another 38,000 trees during TD Tree Days.
