Central Elgin, ON - An Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was stationary observing traffic in the area of Main Beach in Port Stanley, Ontario on August 5, 2019 around 10:45 a.m.

Police watched as a blue car pulled up behind the police vehicle, a male driver got out, and started to fill a 5 gallon bucket with sand.

When questioned, the male driver told police that he needed sand to level stones at his residence in London, Ontario.

Police warned him regarding the criminal offense of theft under $5,000 and advised that he could legally purchase sand from a store in London, Ontario.

Police are reminding the public that beach property belongs to someone. Whether it is private or public access, please treat it with respect.
