Constituency Office of Karen Vecchio, MP

St. Thomas, ON, June 3, 2019 - Karen Vecchio, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London is proud to announce that the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) has had funding approval by Environment and Climate Change Canada. The KCCA has been approved to receive $49,000 over three years for the Kettle Creek Wetland Restoration project.

The Kettle Creek Wetland Restoration project will decrease the volume of phosphorus entering in Lake Erie through local wetland restoration within the watershed. This funding will support the construction of six wetlands on marginal farmlands and naturalize neighbouring lands by planting tall grass prairie and Indigenous trees and shrubs.

“Currently within the Kettle Creek watershed, the wetland coverage is below the 10% marked that is recommended by Environment Climate Change Canada, said Vecchio. This project will ensure that Kettle Creek is able to prepare for high degrees of flooding and erosion during storm events, which adds to the amount of phosphorus in Lake Erie. I would like to extend my congratulations to the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority on this funding and their initiative on local wetland restoration.”
