St. Thomas, Ontario - June 19, 2019 - Last evening the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority's
Environmental Youth Corps (EYC) were planting 1,500 native wildflower and grass
plugs at the St. Thomas Elevated Park.
Working in collaboration with the St. Thomas and District Horticultural Society,
the plugs were planted at the eastern approach of the Elevated Park. This was the
second project undertaken by the Environmental Youth Corps this spring.
The horticultural society, with the help of community volunteers, lead the charge
in the removal of invasive species like white sweet clover and garlic mustard. The
end result will be a naturalized habitat that features many Carolinian and native
Ontario plant species.
