Executive Director, Youth Opportunities Unlimited
In his 36 years with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU), Steve has led and grown
the organization from its modest beginnings based out of a social service incubator,
to its current status as a non-profit leader in London. Its seven locations, four
social enterprises and more than 70 staff and countless community partners are helping
fulfil YOU's vision of "A community where youth are embraced and will thrive."
Under Cordes' leadership, Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) has developed into
an internationally recognized and award-winning charitable organization in the area
of youth services.
Most recently Steve is leading the development of two new major capital projects
that will change the way youth access services. The New Addition will see a Youth
Wellness Hub built to create a full suite of wraparound services for youth, as well
as 40 affordable housing apartments for youth, young moms and moms-to-be.
The second major project will be an Emergency Shelter for Youth, providing emergency
support for those most in need and an open doorway to access other YOU services
available to youth.
With an infectious enthusiasm and strong vision, Cordes continues to push for what
youth need, focusing on the best way to meet the needs of youth, not the best way
to fit youth into a system that too often can see youth slip through the cracks.
Steve's leadership in the area of social enterprise and community development is
widely recognized as he inspires YOU and the community to support youth, encouraging
them to reach their potential by building skills, confidence and independence.
Steve is an avid cyclist, long distance runner and backyard gardener who is a graduate
of Western University.
