Woodstock Police Gun Amnesty Results

Friday, May 11, 2018 - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in collaboration with Woodstock Police Service and other Municipal Police Services held a Gun Amnesty during the month of April 2018.

Law enforcement agencies received hundreds of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

A total of 1,503 guns were turned into the OPP. Woodstock Police had 4 guns turned in.

The guns that were turned into the Woodstock Police will be destroyed. The OPP have a number of guns that will be retained for historical, educational and training purposes.

Although the gun registry has officially ended, Woodstock Police will continue to accept submissions from the public.

Interested gun owners in the City of Woodstock are strongly urged to call the Woodstock Police non-emergency number at 1-519-537-2323 to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons.

Chief Bill Renton says "This proactive community safety partnership with the OPP and other municipal forces provides citizens a safer place to live, work and play." "Our goal is to continue partnerships like the gun amnesty to reduce and prevent crime."

Under NO circumstances should anyone deliver guns or ammunition directly to police facilities.
