FRIDAY 13TH - AIRSPACE CLOSED IN PORT DOVER

Norfolk County, ON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment would like to remind everyone that will be attending Friday the 13th that the downtown core airspace will be closed.

Pursuant to section 5.1 of the Aeronautics Act, air space is restricted during police operations, except for police, medevac and rescue aircraft.

During the events of Friday the 13th, air space is closed for four (4) nautical miles from the centre of town in Port Dover to 2,000 feet above surface. This will reduce any conflicts with other Unmanned Aerial Vehicle's (UAVs) or low flying air craft.

No person should be operating any UAVs or aircraft within the area unless authorized by Transport Canada.

This will ensure that no conflicts will take place with other individuals attempting to use UAVs or aircrafts that may put the public at risk or interfere with police operations.

LARGE AMOUNT OF VISITORS EXPECTED FOR FRIDAY 13TH - EXPECT DELAYS

Norfolk County, ON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment working with our Community Partners recognize there will be a large influx of visitors to the area on Friday, July 13, 2018.

To ensure the orderly flow of traffic and pedestrians, it is necessary to redirect traffic. St. George St., will become a one way street for south bound traffic only. St. Andrew St., will become a one way street for north bound traffic only. Main St. will b e closed to through traffic.

Traffic barriers will be placed on Main Street, St. George Street., and St. Andrews Street from Walker Street, to Nelson Street. Barricades will be erected at a time as designated by the Incident Commander in response to traffic volume.

There will be a highly visible Police presence to ensure the safety of those in attendance and assist with traffic related issues. Media outlets will be advised of any significant changes.

The OPP are urging all vehicle owners and operators to be aware of no parking signage and tow away zones. All vehicles will be removed at the owner's expense.

FRIDAY THE 13TH BRINGS INCREASED TRAFFIC - BE ALERT BE SAFE

Norfolk County, ON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment would like to remind the public that Friday the 13th, a largely attended event in Port Dover, is quickly approaching.

As always, the OPP's priority is community safety. The OPP will have a high visibility police presence in and around Port Dover with a heavy focus on traffic flow and direction.

The OPP recognize that the vast majority of people attending Friday the 13th events are motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy the camaraderie of other motorcyclists and the opportunity to view the rides on display at these events.

However, as with any large gathering, there is a safety risk to those in attendance. The general public needs to be aware that there is a potential of criminal activity associated with those in attendance. Police want to warn the public that the open display of any gang related clothing or paraphernalia may put them at risk of being targeted by rivals.

The police are putting forward their best ef forts to ensure a safe and family oriented event but it is imperative that the public do their part as well by being mindful of the risks and report any suspicious activity or behaviour to police immediately.

"There is going to be an increase in motorcycle traffic on the roadways as we approach Friday the 13th and we need the motoring public to be aware of their surroundings at all times. We want everyone attending Port Dover to act in a safe, mature and responsible manner and to put their safety as a priority" - Inspector Joseph Varga, Detachment Commander, Norfolk County OPP.
