June 12th, 2018 - On Sunday June 10, 2018 at around 8:00 p.m. the St. Thomas Police
arrested a 16 year old male for assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily
harm. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred in the downtown area on May
31, 2018. In that incident the accused assaulted the male victim after the victim
had tried to intervene to break up a separate disturbance. The accused struck the
victim several times with his fist while holding onto a rock. As a result of the
assault, the victim was treated in hospital for serious facial injuries. The identity
of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and he was released
with a future court date.
On Monday June 11, 2018 at 1:15 p.m. police received a call from a concerned motorist
about a possible impaired driver. The motorist had followed the vehicle to the parking
lot of a downtown business where police were able to locate the vehicle and driver.
It was apparent to officers that the driver had been consuming alcohol and his ability
to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. The driver a 74 year old man was arrested
for impaired driving. He was transported to the police station where breath tests
revealed that he had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The accused is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of operating
a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The accused was later released on a promise to appear.
