March 11, 2017 - On Friday March 10 at approximately 5:00 P.M. the St. Thomas Police
were called to a coffee shop regarding an intoxicated male who was refusing to leave
Police arrived and spoke with a 54 year old St. Thomas man. Officers attempted to
gain the males cooperation but he was resistant to officer's directions, as a result
the male was placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place. At this
point the male began to actively resist the officers. In the ensuing struggle an
officer received an injury resulting in him attending the hospital for treatment
to the non-life threatening injury. The suspect then kicked another officer who
attended to assist. Once controlled, the male was transported to the police station
where he continued to be non-compliant and kicked a second police officer.
Subsequently the male was held in custody pending his appearance in court. He is
charged with 2 counts of assaulting a police officer, resist arrest and being intoxicated
in a public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
