Assault and Resist Police

March 11, 2017 - On Friday March 10 at approximately 5:00 P.M. the St. Thomas Police were called to a coffee shop regarding an intoxicated male who was refusing to leave the premises.

Police arrived and spoke with a 54 year old St. Thomas man. Officers attempted to gain the males cooperation but he was resistant to officer's directions, as a result the male was placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place. At this point the male began to actively resist the officers. In the ensuing struggle an officer received an injury resulting in him attending the hospital for treatment to the non-life threatening injury. The suspect then kicked another officer who attended to assist. Once controlled, the male was transported to the police station where he continued to be non-compliant and kicked a second police officer.

Subsequently the male was held in custody pending his appearance in court. He is charged with 2 counts of assaulting a police officer, resist arrest and being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
