Canada Day 2018

Canada Day 2018 in Port Stanley began with the traditional Port Stanley Legion Colour Parade across the King George VI Lift Bridge to the Legion Cenotaph for the Canada Day service. The weather today was perfect, a little humid for some folks, but most of the crowd seemed to gather around on the grounds of the Legion to begin the days celebrations.

This year's celebrations began with Laura doing an amazing job singing "Oh Canada" followed by Legion Padre, Doug Avram who always delivers a thoughtful Canada Day service of thanks. Mayor Marr also thanked the veterans for their past sacrifice that allows us to celebrate Canada Day, "Without them we would not be here!"

The Legion is our heritage, a living symbol that really defines how and what Canadians are really all about, from the sacrifice of many, to the remembrance of those lost, to the celebration of freedom, all due from wars past, to say my home's Canada, is to say it out loud, for I am a symbol, of a Canadian who stands proud.

After the ceremony, the crowd was welcome to some Canada Day cake which was already cut, ready to be served.

At noon this years Boat Parade began along the Port Stanley Harbour to an impressive crowd that lined the Harbour walkway. A short Video is available for viewing.

At 10:00 pm on the beach an impressive display of fireworks entertained the crowded beach. A short Video is available for viewing.
