Sally Martyn - lifelong resident of Central Elgin, former educator and business
owner, owns and operates a farm with my husband John, very active volunteer on many
groups including the Board of Governors at STEGH, Canadian Cancer Society, Sparta
Historical Society, my church etc.
I have been on council for 12 years, 8 years as the Ward 2 councillor and 4 years
as Deputy Mayor. I serve on the Catfish Creek CA and was chair for 8 years. I am
chair of the Committee of Adjustment, chair of the Personnel Committee, and several
other committees Including the Official Plan Committee. I was on the Harbour Environmental
Committee making sure the harbour lands were brought up to parkland standards.
I believe we need an overall plan for Port Stanley which must include traffic flow
improvements before new developments occur. We need more green space for the
growing population and I believe the berm is our perfect opportunity to achieve
this. More senior and affordable housing is needed in Port Stanley and should be
incorporated into the planning process.
I believe that spending of taxes must be shared throughout the Municipality fairly
based on taxes collected. Budgeting needs to be revamped by instituting a form of
zero based budgeting for variable items. Environmental concerns need to be addressed
as well as speeding and traffic concerns municipal wide. Our firefighters need our
support and training will now be helped with a county wide trainer. Their facilities
are important and Port Stanley must have a new station. Open transparent communication
is vital so that all know what is proposed and how to be involved.
I believe it is imperative to listen carefully to constituents, respond quickly
and take their concerns seriously. I am a passionate, hard working individual who
will do my best to serve you.
