☰Dan McNeil Central Elgin Candidate for Ward 1
by Dan McNeil
Dan and Kathy met at Western in September 1970 and attended 'frosh' festivities
at the Port Stanley Stork Club. As Dan pursued his career in the navy for the next
36 years his family always returned to Kathy's family cottage in Port.
After retiring to Port Stanley in 2006 Dan determined that a successful end to the
Harbour Divestiture issue was the key to the future of the Village. He obtained
under "Access to Information" previously confidential environmental reports. He
used this information to motivate the federal bureaucrats involved, and began working
with Federal MPs, Provincial MPPs and a host of regional professionals in an effort
to help "make things right". He was instrumental in the formation of the Port Stanley
Village Association and was its first President.
After the Municipality accepted the harbour deal in September 2010 Dan won the Port
Stanley seat on Council. He has continued to work on the harbour issues from within.
In the last eight years he was: Chair of the Elgin/St Thomas Healthy Community Partnership,
Director and Chair of the Kettle Creek Manor, Member of the Port Stanley BIA and
Community Policing and member of the regional Community Leaders Cabinet.
