Bill Fehr Central Elgin Candidate for Ward 4
Bill Fehr

I am a Charted Professional Accountant and have been in practice in St. Thomas, Ontario for about 30 years. I grew up on a farm in Yarmouth Township (now Central Elgin).

My wife Stella and I have raised our 4 children Cindy, Angela, Adam and Michelle in Central Elgin. They are all on their own now, I am proud of all of them! We know the struggles families face always striving for the best we can give.

I have worked with many community groups over the years. Past president of St. Thomas Kiwanis club, Kiwant not for profit housing, Holy Angel's St. Anne's Credit Union. Fanshawe College business curriculum advisory, Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, Bereaved Families, Block Parent St. Thomas, St. Vincent DePaul, Pets Friends for Life and many others.

Politically I have been president of and am currently on the Federal Conservative and the PC Elgin Middlesex Riding Associations. I have also worked with our federal and provincial members of parliament.

I have dealt with both federal and provincial government members and committees to represent and advocate on behalf of some farmers, individuals and social groups.

Some background as to why I am running

In 2014 I ran for mayor in an effort to make council better and more functional, unfortunately I was unsuccessful.

At that time, Municipally in Ward 4, myself and Harold Winkworth went to bat for the Eastwood residents over the sanitary sewer project. I am most proud of the real cost savings that resulted for these property owners

I felt then and still do that council is dysfunctional as far as delivering the best to our people!

We need a council that makes decisions that are, properly considered and researched, financially sound and make life better for all residents in Central Elgin.

Over the last number of years I see projects estimated extremely high and when bids come in lower and are accepted, council thinks it is a windfall!! They then spend up to their original estimates.

We have housing projects being considered now that would drastically change areas, but without first considering traffic flow and other support services that will be needed.

It seems that to be treated fairly you have to know someone! I want people to be treated fairly and get the best deal because it is right and they deserve that from elected council.

As an accountant and concerned taxpayer I know I can make a difference.
