Minister Flaherty served our country with great integrity, strength and dedication. I was honoured to work with him as part of the Government since 2006. Following the announcement of his passing, it was obvious the impact that Minister Flaherty had in this country with the responses from all Members of the House of Commons.

I share with you his words spoken less than a month ago:
"We live in the greatest country in the world, and I want Canadians to know that it has been my honour and my privilege to serve them."

Minister Flaherty was a one-of-a-kind man with his Irish humour and outstanding leadership.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, his wife, Christine Elliott and their 3 sons. He will be missed.

Joe Preston
Member of Parliament
Elgin-Middlesex-London
