The holiday Monday brought fair skies, plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and lots and lots of visitors to Port Stanley to celebrate the long awaited return to summer.

Beachside parking lots were filled close to capacity with plenty of folks taking welcome advantage of the delay to paid parking this year. Beach goers brought blankets, sun umbrellas, coolers, soothers, shovels and pails, and even one guitar. They were dressed in everything from jackets to shirtless in swimming trunks as people soaked up those beautiful rays. On a beach that has been deserted in recent weeks due to seemingly endless rains, this influx of people in a party mood was a welcome change, brightening everyone's spirits and reminding us that Port Stanley really is a resort town. Even the new playground equipment was getting a good workout by eager kids.

But it wasn't just the beach that was busy on this drop dead gorgeous day! Downtown was bustling! Motorcycles were coming into town by the dozens, parking in neat little shiny rows as the riders stopped off for a bite to eat at one of our fine restaurants. Vehicular traffic of every type was heavy, even a bit congested at times. Crowds of folks were strolling the sidewalks and taking ice cream sunshine breaks on the benches. The town felt alive and vibrant.

Yes, Victoria, summer has returned to Port Stanley!
