The Hockey News, Better Homes and Gardens, Weight Watchers and OK Magazine are a few of the new titles being added to Elgin County Library's selection of online downloadable magazines that already includes O, the Oprah Magazine, Men's Health, Us Weekly and Reader's Digest.

Now at the end of its first year of use, the library's collection of magazines available through its Zinio service has been well-received. "1,400 magazines were downloaded from the library in the first year and the service continues to grow in popularity," said Brian Masschaele, Director of Community & Cultural Services.

This year, library staff decided to add more hobby-based titles that cover topics such as crafts, knitting, quilting, woodworking, sports and travel. The newest titles became available July 1st, 2014.

The Zinio magazine service offers access to full-colour electronic reproductions magazines that can be downloaded for free for viewing on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Patrons can decide to be notified by email as soon as the next issue hits the newsstands. Even better, there are no waiting lists and no fines. The text size can easily be increased for anyone who needs to read larger print.

Elgin County Library branches are located in Aylmer, Dutton, Straffordville, Port Stanley, Rodney, West Lorne, Port Burwell, Springfield, Belmont and Shedden. Residents of St. Thomas are welcome to visit any County branch to sign up for a free membership with proof of their home address.
