The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is urging responsible citizenship for those planning St. Patrick's Day celebrations over the weekend. Impaired driving continues to be one of the 4 major factors attributing to fatal motor vehicle collisions.

The OPP will be keeping an eye on motorists to ensure that drivers are sober. Citizens can expect R.I.D.E. checks to be established this weekend in order to assist police in keeping our highways safe. "One death is too many on our highways, especially at the hands of a drunk driver!" says Traffic Inspector Ian Chappell.

OPP encourage all motorists to drive safe and sober at all times. Police advise those hosting parties to ensure that those leaving by vehicle are in the hands of a sober driver. If a sober driver isn't available, alternative means of transport are available and should be considered or offered.

Don't let anyone drink and drive. With a little "Luck of the Irish" this St. Patrick's Day will be a pleasant celebration for everyone, and not one marked by tragedy.
