One of our rescued cats, "Bobtail"
It is has been just over a year since we started Port Stanley Cat Rescue and we
are pleased to announce we are now a registered Canadian non-profit charity
granted by the Canada Revenue Agency. That means we can officially issue receipts
for income tax purposes for any monetary donation of $10 or more. We will also gratefully
accept cat food and supplies but unfortunately we are not able to issue a receipt
for contributions of services or goods. You can also make a donation in our cash
box at Port's Pet, located in Port Stanley at 208 Main Street.
Check out our new website:
www.portstanleycatrescue.com and give us your comments. Look up the stories
of our rescued cats by clicking on their images. We are working on a better donation
system but for the moment we will accept email money transfers, cash or cheques.
Details are available on our website.
We are continuing to trap feral cats, getting them neutered or spayed, giving them
their essential vaccinations including rabies prevention and attending to any of
their medical needs. An altered cat will have its left ear "tipped" and this lets
anyone know that it has been trapped before. Sometimes we are able to find forever
homes for friendly cats that have been abandoned on the roadside or beach area but
the majority of cats that are caught are feral and have to be returned to where
they lived previously. The only difference is that these cats will now not
reproduce nor hopefully pass on diseases to healthy cats. So, it is always with
our community in mind that we strive to achieve our mission goals, one step at a
time. Remember to neuter or spay your pet to avoid a continued over-population
of unwanted cats.
In order to help us with the influx of expected cat drop-offs and abandonments at
the end of August and beginning of September, we ask if you might consider adopting
or fostering a friendly, socialized cat or providing shelter & food for
a feral cat that has been altered and vaccinated and will not re-produce. This past
winter was very harsh on our feral cats and although we have a small outdoor shelter,
it is not enough to provide the basic comforts for these homeless cats. Be on the
lookout for any friendly stray cat you may encounter and be sure to let us know
immediately so that we can take action.

Volunteers always Needed
We are always in need of volunteers who can help in any capacity such as feeding
the feral cats, able to drive them to the veterinary clinic or assisting in the
cat trapping. We are still looking for an independent person to review our accounting
before we file our income tax return next spring.
