Perfect beach-going weather on Saturday June 28, 2014 helped to get this year's Port Stanley Canfest off to a good start. The art show, by the Association of Port Stanley Artists, on the lawn of the Legion was already drawing crowds by the noon hour.

The beach and beach parking lots were quickly filling up and we spotted a few paddle surfers out on the water, trying out a few of the rental boards offered by the Sport in Port location on main beach. The inflatable village at the end of the west pier was up and running shortly after 1:00 p.m. and crowds were milling about in the beach area of town. Downtown was also starting to get a few visitors by the noon hours and the steady stream of incoming vehicular traffic held the promise of more.

At ten o'clock this evening crowds were emptying after a performance of The Melville Boys at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre, or enjoying the musical stylings of Cottonmouth on the Legion outdoor special events lawn patio. GT's was hopping with good crowds and Rail City Kings had the crowds hopping at GT's. Still others enjoyed the live music being offered at Mickey's Boathouse, the Tapas Bar & Grill, and Barnacles.

Tomorrow promises to be a day of fun-filled Canfest activity, starting with the Firefighters/Lions breakfast at the firehall at 8:00 a.m. There's the Canfest Road Race at 8:00 a.m., the Kids Treasure Hunt at 11:00 a.m., the Cardboard Boat Race at 1:00 p.m. and a whole lot more. Check out our Events Calendar for more information.
