PORT STANLEY, ON: Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be out
on Port Stanley streets this weekend to address a common issue during the summer
months. Numerous complaints have been received in regards to motorcycles riding
unsafely and loudly throughout the village.
As a result, Elgin OPP will be out August 1 - August 2, 2014 educating riders on
proper riding etiquette as well as addressing those who choose to ignore the rules
of the road and putting others safety at risk as well as their own.
"Our detachment has listened to the citizens of Port Stanley and we are here to
help. While we understand that the majority of riders are law-abiding, considerate
and contribute to the wellbeing of the village, there are a select few who put residents
and visitors at risk through their riding misbehaviour. These are the behaviours
we will be addressing this weekend," advises Elgin OPP Detachment Commander Inspector
Officers will be on the lookout for various Criminal Code driving offences like
dangerous driving and impaired driving as well as driving and equipment offences
under the Highway Traffic Act.
Under section 75(1) of the Highway Traffic Act, the charge of Improper Muffler carries
a total payable fine of $110 as does the charge of Excessive Noise under section
75(4) of the Highway Traffic Act.
