Deember 6, 2013: Some London news outlets have erroneously suggested that TVDSB may have banned "fish, eggs and meat" from schools based on religious beliefs.

This is incorrect. There has been no change to Board policy about foods students may bring to school.

The news reports are based on a letter about food allergies sent home Wednesday by a classroom teacher who mistakenly included food choices based on a student's religious preferences.

Parents and the media received a letter Thursday acknowledging the mistake, along with an apology from the Principal. Despite the clarification from the Board, some news outlets continued today to report erroneous information.

Thames Valley Trustee Ruth Tisdale elected Board Chair

London Trustee Ruth Tisdale was elected as Chair of the Thames Valley District School Board at a Special Board meeting on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013. Chair Tisdale replaces long-serving London Trustee Joyce Bennett who has been Chair for two consecutive terms.

Chair Tisdale has served as a Trustee representing London Wards 1, 11, 12 and 14 since 2006. Tisdale has held the position of Vice Chair of the Board, and Chair of the Audit Committee, and serves on the Budget Advisory Committee, Chairs Committee, Negotiations Advisory Committee, OPSBA (Ontario Public School Boards Associations) Board Committee, Policy Working Committee, Supervised Alternative Learning Committee, and the TVDSB/City of London Liaison Committee.

"I am extremely pleased to be chosen as Chair of the Thames Valley District School Board," says Tisdale. "This is such an important time in education and I look forward to serving as Chair of a Board that takes pride in the quality of education we deliver."

Oxford Trustee Graham Hart was elected Vice-Chair of the Board. Hart is a Trustee for the County of Oxford, representing the municipalities of the City of Woodstock, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, Blandford-Blenheim, East Zorra, Tavistock, Norwich, South-West Oxford, and Zorra. Vice-Chair Hart has also served on a number of Board committees including the Budget Advisory Committee, Audit Committee, and Policy Working Committee.

The Board's inaugural meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
