St. Thomas, ON: On January 17, 2013 MP Joe Preston gathered local agricultural producers, small business owners and municipal leaders for pre-budget consultations in preparation for the upcoming 2013 federal budget.

"It is important to hear from my constituents what measures our government can take to strengthen the economy locally and nationally," stated Preston. "We must ensure that we remain competitive and innovative, while following through on our commitment to balance the budget. Discussions like these give community members an opportunity to voice their opinions, helping my colleagues and I to prepare this year's national budget."

Along with MP Joe Preston and MPP Jeff Yurek, involved on this day were:

Agriculture: Jeff and John Ferguson, Dave Jenkins, Bob Hepburn, Dave McCallum, Ian McKillop, and Al Futcher.

Business: Alan Smith, Elgin County EDC; Dan Dale, Elgin Chyrsler; John Regan, Elgin Business Resource Centre; Bob Hammersley, St. Thomas & District Chamber of Commerce; Geoff Cole, Cole-Munro Foods; Brian Helmer, Reith & Associates; Kathy Cook, Lyle Cook Automotive; and Danny DePrest, Re/Max Real Estate

Municipal: Suzanna Dieleman, Southwold; Mayor Jim McIntyre, Southwold; Mayor Dave Mennill, Malahide; Deputy Mayor Gerry Richter, Aylmer; Michelle Casavecchia, Malahide; Greg Borduas, Thames Centre; Jennifer Reynaert, Aylmer; Deputy Mayor Bob Purcell, Dutton-Dunwich; Councillor Ian Fleck, Dutton-Dunwich; Mayor Jim Maudsley, Thames Centre; Don Leitch, Central Elgin; and Mayor Bill Walters, Central Elgin.

In order to ensure that all Canadians can participate in pre-budget consultations, the federal government has launched an online pre-budget consultation forum that can be accessed at www.fin.gc.ca.
