Members of the Active Elgin Coalition are pleased to present the 2014 Active Elgin Sport, Recreation, and Leisure Guide for St. Thomas and Elgin County. Being active and healthy is not always easy when there are so many things that pull us in all different directions.

It takes planning to find activities that are enjoyable and of interest that will keep us motivated and physically active on a regular basis. With over 450 activities for people of all ages and abilities, Active Elgin can help you find activities to fit your healthy lifestyle.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and being physically active has many health benefits. Participating in regular physical activities helps to decrease the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, osteoporosis, and some cancers. Adults and seniors who participate in regular physical activity can improve their muscle strength and tone, flexibility, endurance, reaction time and balance which helps to prevent falls. It is important for everyone to take action now to remain active and healthy for future independence. Discover activities for your healthy lifestyle in the 2014 Active Elgin guide to keep you active and healthy!

The guide is now available at the St. Thomas Public Library, the Elgin County Library branches as well at the Active Elgin Coalition organizations. The guide and activities can also be viewed throughout the year on the Active Eglin website, www.activeelgin.ca.

Members of the Active Elgin Coalition include: City of St. Thomas, East Elgin Community Complex, Elgin St. Thomas Public Health, Elgin County Economic Development & Tourism, Ontario Early Years Elgin-Middlesex-London, West Elgin Community Health Centre, and the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin.
