Elgin County: February 7, 2013: Yesterday, when friends of a 56 year old
Malahide woman heard over the radio about a large quantity of money found in Belmont,
they knew it probably belonged to their friend who had previously told them about
losing a large sum of money in the Belmont area on the 30th of January 2013. The
friends immediately contacted the woman, who in turn contacted the Elgin OPP and
provide police with detailed information about the money.
As a result of the assistance provided by the media, police have been able to return
the found money to its owner, who at the time was making deliveries in the Belmont
area on the day the money was found.
The original media release provided limited information on the amount of money and
denomination as a security measure. $900 in $100 bills was found scattered around
in a 15 foot radius on Snyder Ave, in Belmont by a local Belmont resident on the
30th of January, 2013.
Police and the owner of the money would like to thank both the media and the Good
Samaritan who turned in the money to police. The owner of the money did not wish
to be identified or make a comment to the media.
