February 1, 2013: On the 29th of January 2013, St. Thomas police responded to a report of a break and enter and sexual assault.
Police attended at a City apartment and met with a 24 year old female who had been
the victim of a break and enter and sexual assault. She had suffered non-life threatening
injuries and was taken to the hospital by police. Investigation revealed that an
ex boyfriend had broken into her apartment and waited for her to return home from
work. Once she entered her home he assaulted her and refused to let her leave or
call for help over a 10 hour period. He later fled her apartment and police were
contacted.
Police arrested and charged a 33 year old St. Thomas man with Break and Enter, Assault,
Assault Causing bodily harm, sexual assault, Forcible Confinement, Choking, theft
and mischief. He was held in custody and was taken before the courts on the 31st
of January. He will return to court on Monday February 4, 2013.
The investigation is ongoing and the name of the accused has not been released so
as not to identify the victim. The victim was treated for her injuries and released
from hospital.
