London, ON: January 25, 2013: President Dr. Howard Rundle announced his retirement
at the January 24th meeting of the Fanshawe College Board of Governors, effective
August 31, 2013, after leading the College for the last 17 years.
Dr. Rundle was appointed Fanshawe College's fourth President in 1995. Prior to accepting
the appointment as President, Dr. Rundle held various positions of increasing responsibility
at Fanshawe College since joining the College in 1972. His previous position was
Vice-President Academic.
Fanshawe College Board of Governors' Chair Crispin Colvin says that "Dr. Rundle
embodies the very qualities that instill loyalty and enthusiasm for all with whom
he comes in contact. As President of Fanshawe College, he has been a strong advocate
for post-secondary education and a strong supporter of the City of London as well
as the area communities within Fanshawe's region. His loyalty to his staff, the
students and his integrity has earned him the respect of all with whom he comes
in contact. During his ongoing tenure as President of Fanshawe, Dr. Rundle has brought
the College from a local community college serving our region to one of prominence
at the provincial and national levels. He has attracted a high quality of staff
who view Fanshawe College as an employer of choice."
When Dr. Rundle joined the College 40 years ago, there were 3,300 full-time students
and approximately 90 programs. The College has experienced much growth and today
there are well over 17,000 full-time students, nearly 26,000 part-time registrations
and over 200 degree, diploma, certificate and graduate programs with campuses in
London, St. Thomas, Simcoe, and Woodstock. He has led the College on the largest
campus expansion in its history, including supporting the City of London in the
renewal of the downtown with the new Fanshawe College School of Applied and Performance
Arts that will play an important role as a catalyst for the downtown revitalization.
"I have considered it a true privilege to have had the opportunity to provide leadership
to this great institution," explained President Rundle. "I have worked with numerous
dedicated faculty, staff, and community members who do their utmost to serve students
well. This College has changed the lives of many individuals for the better and
is crucial to the success of our communities. I will always have a passion for Fanshawe
College which has been so much a part of my life for over 40 years."
The Board of Governors accepted Dr. Rundle's announcement with deep appreciation
for all he has done. The selection process of a new president will begin immediately.
Howard Rundle and his wife, Lynda, will remain in London and will both enjoy more
time with their children and grandchildren.
