Bright smiles and friendly attitudes, along with a couple of OPP cruisers, greeted
shoppers in the parking lot of Port Stanley Foodland on March 2, 2013 as the OPP
conducted an Easter Food Drive for local food banks.
A/Aux Sgt. Sarah Paul and A/Aux Sgt. Travis McCormick were set up under a tent with
colouring books, posters and a shopping cart for collecting donations. Shoppers
were stopping by on their way into the store to find out what was wanted, dropping
off their donations on the way back out.
"We do four of these food drives a year," said A/Aux Sgt. Sarah Paul who has been
with the Elgin County Auxiliary OPP for 2 ½ years, "but they're in different
locations around the county. This time we're in Port Stanley."
"We try to do them for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and one more," said A/Aux
Sgt. Travis McCormick who has been with the Elgin County Auxiliary OPP for 10 years.
"This one is the Easter one."
This pair of auxiliary police officers reported they loved these opportunities to
interact with the community and give back to the community. A/Aux Sgt. Sarah Paul
said she's looking forward to the upcoming Port Stanley Community Policing Easter
Egg Hunt.
