January 10th Update: Due to ongoing developments in the current labour dispute between the province and the elementary teachers, parents are advised to monitor the media and Thames Valley websites for the latest information about whether schools will be open or closed Friday, January 11, 2013.

Although the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has announced a province-wide walkout at elementary schools on Friday, January 11, 2013, the province has applied for a cease and desist order to prevent the job action.

It is advisable for parents and guardians to maintain their supervision plans for their children, as the outcome of the cease and desist order is unknown at this time.

A decision on whether schools will be open or closed will be made by 6 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 and posted to the Thames Valley District School Board's website www.tvdsb.on.ca. All school websites will be updated on an ongoing basis to provide current information on the status of labour issues.

Original Release

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has indicated that elementary school teachers are planning a walkout at all elementary schools in the province - including elementary schools in the Thames Valley District School Board - on Friday, January 11, 2013.

Due to this anticipated walkout, all Thames Valley elementary schools will be closed on that date. As a result, all parents and guardians of elementary students will need to arrange alternate daycare for their children on Friday, January 11, 2013.

Transportation for elementary students will not be provided on Friday, January 11, 2013.

If you wish further information regarding ETFO’s job action, please check the provincial ETFO website at www.etfo.on.ca. The Thames Valley District School Board's website at www.tvdsb.on.ca will be updated on an ongoing basis to provide current information on the status of labour issues.
