Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) County of Brant detachment has charged a 39 year old male with numerous criminal charges as the result of a crime spree across the County of Brant, ON.

On Saturday August 17th, 2014 at approximately 3:50 a.m. an officer on patrol located a fully engulfed house fire at a Kitchen School Road, County of Brant address.

Investigation revealed that the home had been forcibly entered and set ablaze. The home, garage and several vehicles were destroyed by the fire. County of Brant Fire Department was on scene and extinguished the fire. The home was unoccupied at the time.

Several break and enters were reported to have occurred in the general vicinity of the Kitchen School Road fire. A residence on Golf Road had been forcibly entered during the early morning hours of Saturday August 17th, where clothing, food and a bicycle were stolen. A home on German School Road was entered with a brown 2005 Nissan car being removed from the property.

A break and enter was also reported at a Lockie Road, County of Brant address where the home owner confronted the suspect, who then fled the area.

A short time later a robbery was reported at the Pioneer Gas Bar on Brant Road. The suspect entered the business and demanded money. A struggled ensued and the suspect fled the area.

A description of the suspect and vehicle which was identified as the stolen brown 2005 Nissan car was broadcast to area police services and was eventually located by Brantford City Police who attempted to stop the car. The car fled and was observed heading towards Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. At approximately 5:50 a.m. the suspect vehicle was observed by Six Nations Police Service on the Fourth Line. A traffic stop was conducted with suspect being arrested.

Charged with 13 Criminal Code offences which include Dangerous Driving, Break and Enter, Arson and Fail to Stop for Police is 39 year old Andrew RENTEL of no fixed address. He has been held in custody and will appear in Provincial Court, Brantford, ON for a bail hearing which is scheduled for Monday August 18th, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
