Innocent Citizens Being Defrauded
St. Thomas Police would like to warn the residents of St. Thomas before they become
victim of a scam. The scammers will approach clients before they enter their bank
near the ATM and ask them to cash their cheques.
The scammers will provide a story similar to - "I am having problems cashing my
cheque at the bank; however, if you deposit this cheque through your account via
the ATM you can withdraw the funds right away and for doing me this big favour I'll
let you keep $100.00."
Ultimately the cheque is fraudulent and returns NSF and the client is on the hook
for all the fees.
Please don't become a victim of this scam, only cash cheques that are your own.
