Building on a partnership nearly three decades in the making, BMO Bank of Montreal
has once again demonstrated its commitment to the healthcare of St. Thomas, Elgin
County, and increasingly, beyond. Today, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation
is proud to announce that BMO has committed $80,000 towards the Great Expansion
of STEGH - its single largest gift ever to our award-winning facility.
"We are humbled by BMO's generosity and grateful for the many years we've worked
together to serve our shared community," says STEGH President & CEO, Paul Collins.
"Our goal is nothing short of an excellent patient care experience for everyone
who walks through our doors, every time."
Great Expansion Campaign Chair and former MP, Ken Monteith adds, "STEGH strives
to deliver the healthcare our families and friends deserve and I see regularly how
this drive ripples right through the Hospital. From a la carte dining for patients,
to ER wait times that for two years in a row have been second to none in Ontario,
to outcomes that rival the biggest and best hospitals in the Province, STEGH is
truly top notch. BMO's gift will help give OUR Hospital the much needed physical
infrastructure to finally match the tremendous talents of our staff."
"BMO is proudly woven into the communities where we do business across the country,"
said Daniel Monid, Regional Vice President, Personal Banking, BMO Bank of Montreal.
"Our gift towards the Great Expansion of STEGH is the latest in our nearly 30 years
of supporting this exceptional facility."
"You can't call yourself a member of a community unless you've done something to
make it better," Monid quoted. "We live here. Our families, friends, neighbours
and employees live here. We all use this hospital. It's not about trying to score
points in a news article," he explained. "Supporting this hospital is important
to us, it matters."
STEGH will see the construction of a new building that will house an Emergency Department,
Surgical Suite, a permanent home for our Mental Health program, as well as a Sterile
Processing Department. The Foundation is leading the $13 million capital campaign
to help fund the "Great Expansion" and has raised nearly $11 million to date.
The Great Expansion project will enable STEGH to keep pace with a dynamic and changing
healthcare system and provide our community with a local state-of-the-art healthcare
facility. As a Provincial leader in ER wait times, the Great Expansion will only
improve an increasingly high performing Hospital.
"This project is tremendously important to addressing shortcomings that exist in
our current facility." explains Foundation President, Bill Brown. "STEGH is where
I first went when I had a heart attack last year, and it's where my family, my neighbours
and friends go when in need of medical care. BMO's gift will have a significant
impact on our project and fundraising goal. We just want to thank their local employees
The community is invited to join BMO in support of the incredible transformations
taking place at STEGH. There are many ways for individuals, businesses and civic
organizations to get involved and the best place to start is by visiting ItsOURHospital.ca.
