February 14, 2013: St. Thomas Police Service is joining other police organizations across Ontario in supporting the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police's (OACP) 2013 Crime Prevention Campaign.

The campaign's theme - "Crime Prevention...it Starts With You!" - emphasizes the important role every individual has in protecting themselves against crime.

Crime prevention is not just the responsibility of the police. The best way to prevent crime is for police to work with individuals, community groups, businesses, schools, and government on ways to decrease criminal opportunities.

St. Thomas Police Community Service unit can provide homeowners, business owners and students various solutions to help prevent theft and stay safe. Programs such as Alcohol, drug and substance abuse, Anti-Bullying Program, R.I.D.E. Programs, Lock it or Lose it Program, and Elder Abuse Committee are just a few initiatives that are offered. For a full list of initiatives and contact information please visit our Web Page www.stps.on.ca. Anyone interested in having a presentation please contact the Community Service Office at 519-631-1364.

Crime Preventions tips will be sent out during the week of February 18-22 specifically targeting Consumer Fraud, Break and Enters and vehicle theft, Elder abuse and Student Safety.
