We are new again to Port Stanley, recently retired, but lived in the area in our
youth. We moved away in pursuit of an education and then to advance our careers.
I must say the community hasn't changed much, but we love it here.
I can understand the Heritage Committee's desire to preserve the community. However,
it is my firm belief, given as an outsider's perspective (returning resident would
better describe us), that Port is an unexploited jewel. Clearly infrastructure has
made limited progress, but that should not be a limiting factor given private interests
and opportunities for investment. Surely common ground can be found.
A plan that incorporates the legitimate desires of those that want to protect the
uniqueness of our community and those who would like to invest in a way that adds
to the community, should be welcomed. Development is inevitable; let's get in front
of the wave and not follow from behind.
I must admit I am shocked at the lack of transparency on this issue.
It is dividing the community, never a good thing.
