Please, PLEASE do you think we can get some garbage cans ... ? Blue flag
beaches need garbage cans; otherwise they become the local garbage dump.
Port Stanley council prides itself on our beaches, on the beauty of our town ...
they focus on heritage instead of what's needed today. Today, the town and its beaches
need garbage cans.
The cans were removed in the late summer downtown and the late fall on the beaches.
Now there is only one (1) garbage can on Main Street where once there was five (5),
Orchard Beach (Little Beach) has none where once there were four (4), the paid parking
lots have none and the same with the Main Beach.
This past weekend was a long weekend and people being people - they just dump their
garbage on the ground. My husband and I have been gathering up garbage for over
five years (we're the ones holding hands and with the plastic LBCO bag and a dollar
store picker upper in the other). Each and every day, spring, summer and fall, we
fill one to two shopping bags full of refuse a day. So, the lack of garbage cans
is a big problem because we alone can fill a garbage can to the brim in three days.
Tomorrow April 22, 2014 is Earth Day. How can Port Stanley say they care when the
garbage problem is being ignored by our council?
P.S.: To the person or persons who walk their dogs and pick up after them, Bravo!
But to those who throw their full baggies in the bushes ... shame, shame, shame
on you! Do you think they just disappear? Poof they're gone! It takes only a minute
to put them in the garbage can. Do you think the Poop Fairy enjoys picking up after
you? This Poop Fairy is getting really tired of doing your job.
