I am sitting here this morning reading my paper and there is an article from Mark
McDonald (CAO for Elgin County). He goes on to say our funding from the provincial
government through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund has been reduced again
to the tune of $5 million dollars over the last five years. And he further states
that to offset this we must raise taxes or lower services, just to keep the status
Am I missing something here? Just on the 20th of the month at a council meeting
we were giving out Certificates of Appreciation to Joe Preston, our MP, and Jeff
Yurek, our MPP, for all the help they have been.
"WOW", some help. We should be tar and feathering them, not praising them.
He went on to further say that funding from other departments, such as Police, have
been reduced also. He has a hope that all municipalities will join together and
scream. We have lots of organizations to do this, but all for naught. What I have
said all along is the municipalities should just get together and say Here you go
boys; since there is no funding, you guys run things.
I am sure that would make a few MPs and MPPs sit up and take notice. Until we have
some kind of revolt, these people will keep on doing this stuff to us. When it comes
election time this fall, just bring these kinds of questions up and see the kind
of BS you will get back.
