Canada is the largest country in the Western Hemisphere. Our red Maple Leaf is recognized
throughout the world. Our country is instantly recognizable from Google Earth. Together
they represent who we are and the directions of our national interests.
We share with the United States the world's largest lake system. We share the world's
longest undefended border, an arbitrary line that we two Nations have chosen to
respect peacefully for over 200 years. Trade across this border has been going on
since the beginning of time.
We spread our leaf to the east towards our ancestral trading and political alliances.
We spread our leaf towards the west and new opportunities. We spread our leaf towards
the north that up until now we just assumed was ours. We are a model country, with
unparalleled coasts, inland lakes and vast multicultural populations that live in
Centennials and Sesquicentennials are about reflecting on our past, being honest
with our present, and envisioning our future.
Mottoes need not be slogans in a dead language. They should be a vision statement
that we reflect on and aspire to.
"Calm, Order and Good Governance, from Sea to Sea to Sea"
If you feel this symbol of our 150th Anniversary and Vision Statement is of merit
I hope you will bring it to your readership for their opinion. I hope that Canadians
be encouraged to put forward submissions for Crowdsourcing. Let's not make this
another Harper decision.
