February 11, 2013: Mickey Mouse will be impressed when a group of local performers
from Expressions Dance Arts in St Thomas travel to Walt Disney World in Florida
this week! The students, ages 12-17, are performing on stage at Disney. They will
also be training in dance, acting and singing, right alongside the professionals
who work at Disney.
After months of fundraising, the Expressions teachers, parents and children are
now packing and ready to board their flights. This coming weekend is a busy holiday
weekend in the USA and Canada. The girls are very proud to represent Canada and
their hometown area, at Disney World. Their performance will be announced and featured
at the Disney resort for international guests to see.
The young dancers will perform a variety of numbers in their original stage show.
Dance styles in their show range from Musical Theatre to Jazz to Hip Hop to Acrobatics.
"Our dancers and their families are thankful for the community support for the recent
team fundraisers. Fundraising has helped make this Disney dream possible for these
young ladies," says Expressions Director Elizabeth Morgan. "This is our fourth trip
to perform and train at Disney. This excursion is something the dancers have worked
toward for many months now. Over the years, Expressions has had multiple students
invited to audition to work as dancers at Disney, which is a big compliment to their
training and ability. This trip is therefore not only a performance and training
opportunity for our students, but it can potentially open doors for them to pursue
a future career."
Dancing at Walt Disney World this week from Expressions are: Mallory Braam, Rebecca
Chouinard, Jessica Vader, Erin McAdams, Callista Tryon, Rebecca Williams, Katie
Ennis and Alexandra Whitney, accompanied by teachers Crystal and Elizabeth and a
number of the dancers' family and friends.
