Wind warning in effect for:

  • St. John's and vicinity

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum gusts: southerly 100 km/h along the coast.

Locations: southern and eastern Newfoundland.

Time span: midday Wednesday to early Wednesday evening.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • St. John's and vicinity

Snow, rain, and strong southerly winds expected on Wednesday.

Total snowfall amounts: 5 to 10 cm.

Total rainfall amounts: 5 to 10 mm, except up to 15 mm along the southern shore.

Maximum wind gusts: southerly generally between 60 to 80 km/h except 100 along parts of the coast.

Time span: early Wednesday morning until Wednesday evening.

Remarks: Strong southerly winds will accompany the snow causing a few hours of poor visibilities in snow and blowing snow over all areas on Wednesday morning.

The snow will change to rain near noon or in the afternoon over all areas. Rain and mild temperatures have the potential to cause localized flooding and water pooling on roads.

The public should prepare for poor travel conditions on Wednesday.
